After listening to me tell a couple stories about my past, a friend stopped me and said, “I noticed something about you. You’re always the hero in everyone else’s stories, but never your own.”
That one got me.
Of course, she was right. Why didn’t I ever focus on saving myself? It was always easier to worry about someone else and ignore my own problems. There was also no risk of letting myself down if I didn’t even try.
With one statement, that friend helped me realize I was treating myself like I wasn’t worth saving.
I deserve a hero, even if that hero is me.
You do too.
